Mr. P Chill gave us an exclusive look at his 13th studio album, Funky Uncle Chill. The 8-track project differs from his past projects, which showcases heavy political overtones. The latest project focuses more on getting older and dealing with stereotypes of when an emcee should hang up the mic and move on.
Mr. P Chill is very authentic on this project and shows his growth as a artist, and at times is vulnerable with the way he let’s himself out there. As an older emcee it can be hard to gain the noteriety and respect from the newest generation, Mr. P definitely conveys the message in a way not meant to be disparaging in any way.
Also on this album, Mr. P Chill starts off in a new direction; instrumental Breakbeat/Funk. The title song from Funky Uncle Chill is an instrumental track with Chill cutting and scratching over it in places. Over the past two years, Mr. P Chill has been doing an increased number of DJ gigs, spinning all vinyl records, no digital, and sharing his deep collection of funky and rare records. The main genre he spins, besides Hip-Hop, is funk/breaks/disco/rare grooves.Until now, Chill has been using his stage name as DJ, but in August, he will begin DJing under the moniker of Funky Uncle Chill as well as writing and releasing instrumental breakbeat/funk records under that name too. Stay tuned for the first of these releases in 2019.
Unlike most contemporary Hip-Hop records, including some of Chill’s past releases, this album only has one track that features other vocalists on it. The lead single for the album, Summertime, features J.Smo rhyming as well as Julie Rush providing smooth vocals on the chorus. This feel good song felt like an obvious selection for the single, coming out on the first day of summer in June. This song has been enjoying radio play on a handful of radio stations in the US as well as rotation on several online stations.
On Friday, August 17th, Mr. P Chill will be unleashing his 13th studio album, Funky Uncle Chill, on all digital music platforms as well as on CD and Vinyl Record.
